Types of Auto Glass
Windshields are made of laminated safety glass designed to keep vehicle occupants inside the passenger compartment during a crash and to support the roof during a rollover. Side and back glasses are usually tempered, or heat strengthened glass, that shatters into rounded pebbles when broken. Both laminated and tempered are safety glass but only laminated safety glass can be repaired.
The Windshield
Modern windshields have evolved into complex, often very expensive, engineered glass systems designed to melt ice, repel UV radiation, house radio & telephone antennas and even uplink to satellites. More importantly, seat belts, airbags and the windshield are the three components in every vehicle's safety restraint system.
